Watchdog Puppy

It is always so funny to me to observe your pups start turning into watch dogs!  Brena will be 10 months old tomorrow, but started her watch dog barking here and there while she was outside on our deck alone.  I would always go out and see what she was barking at and praise her.  Well a pup living with a pack of dogs will always go look out the window where the pack is barking to look and listen, they tend not to bark and allow the big dogs to take care of that.  There always comes that time, when the pup happens to be the first to spot something and lets out that serious sounding first bark in the house.  Well that just happened in the house for the first time a couple hours ago for Brena.  These are the moments you would just love to happen to have a camera going, because this is the second pup I have seen this happen with here in our home.

Brena, the pup noticed something first and and started barking….  the pack being alerted to her bark ALL jumped up barking from where they were and came flying and barking to the front windows too.  It totally scares the crap out of the pup!!  hahahaha  They get their first taste of what happens when the alarm is sounded, and when the adults come charging barking serious… it has always initially scared the pup!  Brena went running away down the hallway when the pack all came barking and charging for the front windows.  She did come back and start barking with them… but it is that scared to death look of “what did I do wrong??” and thinking they were coming after her that I would love to capture on film.  It is the most comical thing to see.  I have witnessed this a few times in the past… Gus is one I can think of doing it too.

We all come out and yep, she was barking for a GREAT reason, Brena got all kinds of praise…. thus our back deck barking alone watchdog pup has just now found out what “sound the alarm” really means in this house.   She also found out for the first time, that all the other dogs believed her bark and took her serious when she barked at the person in our drive.

Brena, has just passed the watchdog test, with her pack actually listening to and responding to her bark.  We just keep watching as she matures, as she is already charging to beat the other females through the door, and wonder just what other changes we will see in her now with the pack of dogs responding to her barking of the intruder on our property.

To funny, I love seeing it happen.
