Dog Breeding - Progesterone Tests #5

Well, to finish this progesterone testing series…. I was not able to get Candy in to the vet on that Tuesday morning and all seemed ok that morning.  Tuesday afternoon all the sudden things changed with Parker, so I took Candy in Wednesday morning for another progesterone test and requested a same day reading.  I got her results at 5pm and the reading was 7.1 so Candy had ovulated.  I drove there Thursday and the first breeding happened that evening with Ricco.  Because the reading was higher a back to back breeding was done and she was also bred on Friday.  Candy basically had a stall in her heat cycle; she didn’t end up with a split heat cycle.

Interesting stuff really, many people wonder why their dogs don’t get PG, well we will find out if this way works.  I will have Candy checked with ultrasound June 14th and post the results as a comment on this last post in this progesterone series.

I forgot to post the results… well all that testing and Candy didn’t get PG. I was pretty down about it, but will just continue on. I had a feeling with Candy doing something unlike her normal cycle I should have just stayed home and bred her to my male… even brought that up to the vet. They were more confident in their tests than I was… I will use my instincts and my male on all my breeding from here on. I was offered an open time for a repeat breeding to this stud, you can’t ask for better from people… they felt as bad for me as I did. I will make the trip again some day in the future. I really did enjoy seeing my sister again and will plan the same type of trip again. My sis made the trip worth it! and I would do it again.
