Dog Breeding - Progesterone Tests #3

I thought I would take the time to quick update the information as to where I am right now with Candy.  I thought I would be gone and on my way to breeding by now!!  Candy had her first progesterone test Monday at 7 days from me first catching her in heat.  That test came back 1.5 so acording to the Leerburg “when the LH surge goes over 1.0 to 1.9 - you breed in 5 to 6 days” so that would be today or tomorrow.  I was to take Candy back for another test on Wednesday but couldn’t make it, so went Thursday for a second test.  The test reading had gone down to 1.3!!  hahaha  really it wasn’t to funny to me.  So now you say ok… is it 5 to 6 days from the Thursday test that I breed???  Needless to say, my plan for breeding today has been changed… as I now had to get a third test today… I am to get the results in the morning even though it is a Sunday.  If the Leerburg site is correct… then in order for me to still hit that timeframe, Candy’s test today should say that she ovulated yesterday on Friday, then I would still fit to the 6th day from the first reading.  I guess we will see tomorrow, and so far that is 3 vet trips.

I did call a friend that breeds a lot of her dogs this way, because when you have no stud and you are breeding to top dogs they are required.  She did say she has some females that go up to 20 days after starting their heat cycle starts before they ovulate, should that be the case with Candy I have 6 more days of every other day testings.   The expense for that starts to climb and I still have to travel 9 hours, so there is a lot more to just the charge of a stud fee involved in your total costs to get the breeding done for sure.
