Ok now that Brandy is done, of course that brought my girl Candy in heat, which I am driving 9 hours to where the German import stud now AKC registered is.  This male is owned by a vet and with even more research, there is tons out there… many vets say it is impossible to tell when a female ovulates unless #1 you have at least 1 progesterone test below 5ng to even know. Stated in this particular link: “I commonly get the question, “Doc, we only ran one progesterone test on my bitch and it was 15ng, when did she ovulate?” The answer is impossible to know based on one test. I have seen bitches at 15ng one day after ovulation as well as 5, 10, 20, or 40 days after ovulation. You must have one test below 5ng and one above 5ng to determine ovulation day.”   Link is here   

There are many other sources for information out there on the internet, so do your research, especially if you are like me and have a long distance to travel to get the breeding done.

Since I have a 9 hour drive for this breeding with Candy who just came into heat yesterday… I will get a test done on her Friday to try to insure that I have 1 test below 5 ng, as I have caught her before any swelling.  I was instructed by the vet that owns the stud, not to even attempt to travel with my female until she had hit the 5 ng.  Some females under stress with travel  or left for breeding, can stop and not ovulate… so she wanted me to make sure the ovulation had happened before I left for my travel.

I will do all these instructions… as I do not want to have to make this trip again…and these have been the best results for them, there is also information as to the different types of tests used, I will use as instructed the over night lab test, not the in-house 1 hour testings.

Lots of information out on the net… so just do your research or maybe follow instructions especially if given by a vet that owns the stud…*grin*  At least armed with information you can ask good questions, and sound like you have some knowledge.
